Carole R. Azran – Of Counsel

Carole Azran has been practicing family law exclusively for more than 30 years and is licensed to practice  in both California and New Jersey. Ms. Azran has extensive experience successfully representing clients in matters involving the valuation and division of community and separate property, spousal and child support, child custody and visitation (often in high-conflict situations), move-away or relocations by a parent, annulment of marriage, breaches of fiduciary duty and domestic violence.  Her expertise makes her well-suited to represent clients facing a variety of family law issues.

Prior to attending law school, Ms. Azran received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UCLA. Her background in Psychology allows her to identify issues early and adjust strategy accordingly, which prevents missteps and protect clients. Ms. Azran understands how people think, communicate, and respond under stress, which is of paramount importance as personalities and emotions often fuel conflict as much as legal issues. This foundation helps Ms. Azran connect with clients in a grounded, compassionate way, while also acknowledging the emotions that shape conflict and decision making.

Ms. Azran’s vast experience has shaped her practice, bringing her broad knowledge of the law, compassion and integrity to each case. She recognizes that not every family law matter benefits from a litigation-intensive approach, even in high-conflict cases where it may seem there is no other choice. Ms. Azran also understands that using aggressive tactics can sometimes backfire, leading to outcomes that are emotionally and financially devastating for clients. Ms. Azran’s practice  emphasizes discretion and strategic restraint, balancing assertive advocacy with practical and  resolution-focused approaches. Ms. Azran’s professionalism, problem-solving expertise, resourcefulness and ability to empathize with clients sets her apart from most other family law attorneys.

To her credit, Ms. Azran was named in two landmark appellate cases which created new law and clarified issues which were previously unclear. The first, In re Marriage of Dick (1993) 15 Cal.App.4th 144 (18 Cal.Rptr. 2d 743) established two important points of law: 1) That a foreign national who is not permitted to reside in California full- time can still be considered a “resident” for jurisdictional purposes; and 2) That spousal support may be ordered to be paid retroactive to the date of filing of a petition for dissolution, even though a request for spousal support was not filed at that time, something that practitioners did not believe possible under the family law statutes as then written. The second, In re Marriage of Benjamins (1994) 26 Cal.App.4th 423 (31 Cal.Rptr. 2d 313) held that a payment required pursuant to a non-modifiable martial settlement agreement terminated by operation of law upon the death of the recipient spouse. The legal effect of both of these cases remains significant as they have never been overturned and are often cited in legal briefs.

Ms. Azran is a long-standing member of the State Bar of California, Los Angeles County
Bar Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association and New Jersey State Bar Association. She is married and has two daughters both of whom are also successful attorneys.
